Now that you're admitted, here’s what you should do next.

Checklist
  • Step 1 – Know your Southern Miss ID and password. An email will be sent to you with the subject line of “Activating Your Southern Miss Student Account.” Follow the instructions to set up your Southern Miss email. If you need assistance, contact the iTech Help Desk at 601.266.HELP.
  • Step 2 – Apply for campus housing by the priority date of March 1. Note: Freshmen are required to live on campus, and housing is assigned on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Step 3 – Submit your . (Southern Miss school code: 002441)
  • Step 4 – Apply for scholarships in the GO System. Note: Accept all University scholarship offers in the GO System by the deadline (Freshmen - May 1, Transfers - August 15).
  • Step 5 –  of two (2) immunizations for measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR). *Hattiesburg and Gulf Park students only.
  • Step 6 – Follow instructions emailed to you for next steps including Orientation and academic advisement. For assistance,
  • Step 7 – Turn in your final official transcript at the end of the semester to the Office of Admissions so that all applicable earned college credits can be posted toward your Southern Miss degree.
GO System

GOLDEN OPPORTUNITIES

The Golden Opportunities Scholarship and Competitive Programs Application System (GO System) is the hub for all scholarships at ӣƵ. It houses a variety of scholarship opportunities for incoming and continuing students.

Complete the General Application in the GO System to be considered for a variety of institutional scholarships and search for other opportunities for which you may be eligible.

Earned

College Credit
 

If you are a recently graduated high school senior who has earned college credit through another college or university, you must request that an official transcript from that college or university be sent to the Office of Admissions at Southern Miss. We cannot accept credit that appears on your high school transcript.

ӣƵ will allow students to earn college credit by examination through Advanced Placement (AP) testing, the College-Level Examination Program (CLEP), International Baccalaureate (IB) examination, or the Cambridge Assessment International Education (CIE) program. Official score reports must be sent to the Office of Admissions for credit evaluation. to view score conversion charts.

Submission of Proof

MMR Immunization
Mississippi state law requires that students provide proof of two (2) vaccinations for measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR). Exemptions are permitted in cases of (a) actual or suspected pregnancy (measles or rubella vaccinations are not required for females who are pregnant; if pregnancy is suspected, a valid certificate of medical exemption from a health provider is required until pregnancy is resolved); (b) medical contraindication; or (c) birth prior to 1957.

  • We will accept a copy of your personal original immunization record, should you have one in your possession. (Your original record is not needed; a copy will be sufficient.)
  • If you were immunized in the State of Mississippi, you can contact the for a free copy of your immunization record.
  • If you are not a Mississippi resident and are unable to access a personal copy of your immunization history, we recommend that you contact your local health department for assistance and guidance.
  • If you are ultimately unable to acquire a copy of your immunization history, you can have a medical provider conduct a titer test that proves your MMR immunization.

We will accept copies of your MMR immunizations in the following way (Please make sure to include your student ID number when submitting your documentation.)

  • Religious exemption: Please complete this form to document a religious exemption from the measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) immunization requirement. Once completed, use the to submit it (you will need to log in using your application portal user name and password).
  • Medical exemption: Please complete this form to document a medical exemption from the measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) immunization requirement. Once completed, use the to submit it (you will need to log in using your application portal user name and password).

Student Accessibility Services

Student Accessibility Services (SAS) is the University’s designated office to verify students’ eligibility for accommodations under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). SAS works with eligible registered students on an individual basis to provide classroom and housing accommodations that are specific to their disability.
