STEMontheGO

STEMontheGO is a new Center program to help Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵ faculty illustrate and communicate their research findings by building mobile 'go kits' to bring to K-12 schools, Black and Gold Day,
public events, and more as part of a larger $1.5 million U.S. Department of Education award to expand the Center’s STEM ecosystem.

In summer 2024, the Center selected 13 recipients from the College of Arts and Sciences, including faculty members and graduate students, to receive funding to build and share kits of their own design to more broadly communicate their work. Read more about the competition winners in this university press release.

The Center hosted a STEM Carnival in October to showcase the kits to the more than 1,500 residents who attended the free event. Additionally, the program proposes to build 'STEM trails' in Hattiesburg and along the Coast, with fun, family-friendly exhibits that feature the research done at the university.

STEMontheGO's ultimate goal is to improve Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵ’s science communication, bringing the cutting-edge work of our professors to a broader audience via hands-on demonstrations, making the research more engaging and consumable for the public.

"STEMontheGO will expand teaching and learning beyond our university labs and classrooms into our communities in both Hattiesburg and on the Coast. We are excited about the new
opportunities for Mississippi kids and families."
