The Road to National Board Certification for Teachers Starts at Southern Miss

The MS World-Class Teaching Program was established in 1998 to guide and support teachers as they embark upon the . The program is based on the premise of the National Writing Project that “the best teacher of a teacher is another teacher.” This support process is proven to increase teachers’ chances of attaining National Board Certification.

The World Class Teaching Program at ӣƵ has been fortunate to work with excellent funders to provide two opportunities for local students and teachers. Thank you to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and the W.K. Kellogg Foundation for partnering with the World Class Teaching Program to move education forward in Mississippi!

Board Certification Summer Standards Workshop

Learn about the National Board Certification process and begin studying the National Board standards for your certificate area. This workshop is an important first step toward participation in support groups with ӣƵ's World Class Teaching Program.

Summer Workshop Sections:

Each section begins with a Zoom session on the first day and ends with a Zoom session on the last day. In between the Zoom sessions, participants work through the learning exercises in the Canvas course at their own pace. 

Face-to-Face Meetings

Candidates will meet with support providers and fellow candidates one Saturday a month throughout the process to discuss details about compiling the portfolio, share feedback on drafts, and critique one another’s videos. There are a total of 9 meetings scheduled for 8 a.m. - 12 p.m.

Assessment Center Prep

One Saturday in April is reserved for “Assessment Center Saturday.” During this meeting, participants learn to deconstruct the rubric and analyze retired test prompts to help increase their chance of success at the assessment center.
