IMPACT Community Work-Study

Page Content

IMPACT provides opportunities for Southern Miss students to connect with the Pinebelt community and become more career ready.

IMPACT students are placed at community non-profit organizations and complete up to 20 hours of paid work/service per week a semester. Students in the IMPACT program meet regularly with program staff in the Office of Community and Belonging to discuss how their experiences are connected to what they are studying in the classroom and what they want to do after they graduate.

IMPACT students must:

  • be work-study eligible
  • be able to work at least 10 hours/week
  • have their own transportation to their assigned work sites

As a result of participating in IMPACT, students will:

  • apply course content to community issues to achieve solutions for civic dilemmas
  • apply strategies that promote effective teamwork and collaboration
  • demonstrate critical thinking skills necessary to engage in innovative problem-solving
  • develop intercultural competence by increasing their awareness of diverse community needs
  • develop the leadership skills necessary to positively impact their communities
