The Hospitality and Tourism Management Program cultivates students' professional skills and operational capabilities to prepare them for careers with managerial positions in the hospitality and tourism industry. Our faculty is actively engaged in the field, bringing a diverse and rich mixture of backgrounds and skills. Faculty research and practical experiences will provide you with unique skills and knowledge of the industry to help you towards a successful career.
Students are encouraged to consider studying abroad! In fact, many business students are awarded study abroad scholarships to assist with the expense of attending study abroad programs. Southern Miss Business faculty lead three programs: British Studies, Asian Studies, and Italian Studies.
The College of Business and Economic Development is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB).
What Will I Learn?
The program begins by equipping students with the advanced understanding of management principles through business core courses. Student will learn industry terminologies, communication skills, leadership skills, and decision management processes in the hospitality and tourism industry.
Depending on students' interests, they can choose to learn one of the three different tracks in the program:
- Hotel, Casino, and Resort Management
- Food and Beverage Management
- Event Management
The core courses taken from this discipline include e-commerce, marketing, revenue management and more! Southern Miss is one of few in the nation that offers a BSBA in Hospitality and Tourism Management.
Study abroad programs led by Southern Miss business faculty include the British Studies Program, Asian Studies, and Italian Studies. Faculty in the School of Marketing are involved in all three programs. Ask about scholarship opportunities for Hospitality and Tourism majors to study abroad.
